your question[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Hi, sorry for the delay, I've been offline for some days. I did not quite get what you were trying to ask me. Could you point me to which pages you tried to categorise? --Johannes Rohr 14:03, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, are you still having issues with using categories? I looked at some of those which you reported and at least in one case the reason was as simple as this: you wrote [[category:Africa]] instead of [[category:Afrikaa]]. You should always use the native name for a category. (in the long run, even the word "category" should be localised, but since this requires full MediaWiki localisation, this can be postponed for now. )
The other point is that assigning a page to category:some fancy category name does not magically spring the page category:some fancy category name into existence. However, this is a minor issue. At present, most categories do not have their own pages, see the many red links in Special:Categories.
However, when you are bored, it would certainly be a good thing to create those missing pages, mostly because each category should be assigned to a parent category. e.g. a category:Ethiopia should be in Category:Afrikaa, or maybe something more extact like "African state", which in turn should be assigned to a category "States" (for all of the above, please substitute Oromo translations!) Categories are assigned to parent categories in the same way as articles are assigned to categories.
Another thing to know is that moving a category page does not change the categorisation of the individual articles. When you would rename the page Category:Afrikaa to Category:African state, the individual articles still remain members of Category:Afrikaa, until you fix the [[Category:...]] lines in the articles themselves.

Hope, this was not too confusing, after all. BTW, if you continue to have issues, you can also phone or skype me. I'll give you the details if you e-mail me. --Johannes Rohr 12:12, 13 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please write a stub http://om.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kur%C3%B3w – just a few sentences based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kur%C3%B3w ? Only 3-5 sentences enough. Please.

PS. Article about Kurów is already on 194 languages nad dialects. If you do that, please put interwiki link into English version. If your village/town/city isn't yet on PL wiki, I can do article about it. (I'm first author of requests) Pietras1988 TALK 23:05, 4 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oromo Dictionary - Copyright violation[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Hi there, the contents of Oromo Dictionary are verbatim copy and paste from http://www.shenpres.org/FellowshipICare/Oromifa.htm

This is a clear copyright violation, in breech of Wikipedia's principles (unless the creator of the original work has given his/her permission and licensed the text under the GNU Free Documentation License). Therefore I would like to ask you to delete this page. I will flag it for deletion. --Johannes Rohr 21:07, 10 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Double brackets[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Hi there, the double brackets are used to include templates. (see en:Help:Template). Technically, a template is simply a wiki page, residing in the template: namespace. So, if you write {{white elephant}}, the system looks for a page template:white elephant and includes it into the page, if it exists, thereby expanding any variables contained in it. So, when you write {{continuum mechanics}}, the system looks for Template:Continuum mechanics, which does not exist, unless you or someone else has created it. You can, of course copy it over from en:Template:Continuum mechanics (and translate it).

When you write, that you are "not satisfied", regarding my answer to the categorization questions, I'd like to know, what is still unclear. I'd really like to be helpful, if I can... Greetings, --Johannes Rohr 20:56, 18 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Hi there,

if my explanations were unclear, please have a look at m:Help:Category. Maybe that makes it clearer.

Just to answer your question: Categorization is not happening automatically. There are not "category bots", as we have interwiki bots.

You have to categorise pages yourself. And you should definitely not give up on that, as categories are one of the central means to keep a wikipedia edition organised. Without them, everything becomes a mess.

Again:

  • Assigning a page to a category is as simple as writing
[[category:category name]]
into the body.

Finally, if you have specific issues, that you are fighting with, please be specific in your questions. Please tell me exactly which page you were editing and what the expected results would have been. Without that, I can only guess. --Johannes Rohr 09:15, 23 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Can you give me an Oromo translation of the phrase

"Wikipedia - The Free Encyclopedia" ?

This is for creating a localised version of the Wikipedia logo in the upper left corner. See m:Logo#Localisation for more info...

When translating the word "free" , try to take into account that in this case "free" refers to "freedom" rather than to "free of charge". It is certainly best if you find a translation that covers both meanings. --Johannes Rohr 18:18, 28 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've requested the logo, see en:User_talk:Nohat#Oromo_Wikipedia_logo --Johannes Rohr 22:27, 29 Waaxabajjii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translation Request[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Translating[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Hi Diroma Elias. You are doing here great work, also for translating the interface.

I want to ask you to come to Betawiki, a special wiki where you can translate the interface. Betawiki has several advantages:

  • If you translate here, you can only use it here. If you translate on Betawiki, you can use the translations on every wiki with this software!
  • On Betawiki, you can also translate the namespaces and the names of the special pages.
  • That wiki is made for translating, this means you can translate there on an easy way.

If you translate there, this language will appear on mw:Localisation statistics and I hope this language will become green :-)

If you want to do this, please tell me on Betawiki. We can import the existing translations to Betawiki if you want.

Thank you very much, SPQRobin 22:34, 30 Sadaasa 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More information about Betawiki, as you asked at meta:.
  • Could you give me a detail about betawiki, its connection to wikipedia? Maybe you know this already, but this wiki (om.wikipedia) is part of the Wikimedia Foundation. All Wikimedia wikis are running on MediaWiki, wiki the software. Betawiki is an independant wiki (= not part of Wikimedia), which has 1 goal: having more translations in the software.
  • What happens to the exsiting translation if become a betawiki? All your translations made on betawiki will be (after one or more days) committed to the software. Then it is available for all wikis. After a few days (sometimes weeks), Wikimedia upgrades to a newer version of the software, so the new translations are available.
So, I hope you will come to Betawiki :-) You can create an account there, and you will get a welcome message with more instructions. If you want to answer, please do it over there. Greetings, SPQRobin 18:51, 29 Amajjii 2008 (UTC)[reply]

om.wiktionary[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Dear Diroma Elias, please could You help to translate some templates in Oromo Wiktionary, You can find them in wikt:Category:Wiktionary/translate. There the language names need translations. If You don't want to edit there, You could also give me a list of the translations here and I would add them for You.

The language names that are missing there are "English", "Spanish", "French", "Icelandic", "German".

Many thanks for Your help, best regards, --simbira (:> )=| 17:34, 18 Haggaya 2008 (UTC)[reply]

connectivity project[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Hallo, my name is Anastasiya Lvova, I'm "duty" in Connectivity project. The essence of the "Connectivity" project is to study and enhance the coherence of Wikipedia, or, in other words, to improve hypertext navigation between articles. The project deals with deadends, isolated articles, non-categorized articles, transitivity of the category tree, etc.

We want to work with your language version, but we need configured MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage for it (with direct links to template namespace pages, for example, ru:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/de:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/fr:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage). Is it possible to set it up for our usage?

thanks in advance, Lvova 18:20, 13 Waaxabajjii 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your admin status[lakkaddaa gulaali]

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on omwiki, where you are an administrator. Since omwiki does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.
